Whilst modesty prohibits self-promotion, the impulse to share knowledge and information, to stimulate debate and discussion can sometimes win out in the end, and I feel compelled to tell you about a fascinating new collection of articles despite the fact that I am a co-editor of the volume. "Higher Education and Civic Engagement: International Perspectives" by Ashgate publishing emerged from a conference we held in Galway a couple of years ago and is informed by writers from the US, South Africa, Britain and Ireland. With a range of different perspectives, the articles cover topics such as the nature of citizenship, what constitutes "knowledge", service learning and volunteering. We were delighted and honoured that so many prominent 'actors' in the fields of higher education and service learning were able to contribute.
