passion for learning or earning?
A brief article in today's Guardian presents the case being made by Patricia Broadfoot and Michael Thorne (which he also raised in a recent article in the Times Higher) that many students are lacking in a real enthusiasm for their subject, focusing instead on obtaining qualifications in order to secure high salary employment, degrees being seen, in other words, solely as "a means to an end".
