Webcasting President - Autonomy and Accountability

At the opening keynote session of the Symposium, NUI Galway's (new) President, Dr. James Browne, highlighted the considerable degree of autonomy which universities in Ireland have as a result of the 1997 Act, but suggested that such, and the fact that almost all of the sector's funding comes directly from the public purse, needs to be reciprocated by a sense of transparency and accountability to the public and the state. He then goes on to describe how the recent academic restructuring in Galway devolves power and responsibility to the new schools and colleges.

I think a webcasting President might be more "sustainable" than a blogging President !

Another interesting blog has surfaced that addresses a very important issue surrounding the timely restructuring across all Irish Universities.
