Do modular degrees mean lower standards?
With concern at the number of firsts and 2.1s being awarded in English universities, a debate has opened up on whether modular programmes, with their lack of final examinations and compartmentalisation of knowledge are to blame. This week's Times Higher provides a range of opinions on the issue as part of a continuing debate on the academic rigour of not just undergraduate programmes but also even some voiced concern about postgraduate theses and dissertations.
